This year I am fundraising in honor of my father, Patrick Joseph Conway, who died a few weeks ago after a battle with Parkinson's. My father had 6 sisters, a strong Irish wife and three daughters. Dad referred to us as his three graces, but really, we were the ones who were graced by his parenting. Dad created an environment for us to be strong and independent. His steadfast support of our mother, in her work, her pursuit of higher education, and her desire to regularly return to Ireland to be with her family, taught us all how we should treat others, how we deserved to be treated, and what love in action truly looks like. He did not only think that men and women were created equal but his actions lived that belief. We had the gift of support and encouragement and that enabled us to thrive.
As board chair of Girls Inc. of Westchester County, I have seen firsthand how truly impactful their programs are on the lives of the girls they serve - girls from all areas of our county - particularly those from under-served and under-resourced areas. Any young girl that is supported, enabled to be her authentic self and be safe can soar to new levels.
Girls Inc. gives girls opportunities for experiences they otherwise would not have through educational enrichment & SAT/ACT prep programs, leadership development, confidence-building, STEAM, and so much more. The evidence-based programming is delivered by trained professionals who focus on the development of the whole girl by supporting, mentoring, and guiding girls in an affirming, pro-girl environment. Girls learn to value their whole selves, discover, and develop their inherent strengths, and receive the support they need to navigate the challenges they face.
A significant portion of the funding for Girls Inc. Westchester programs come from individual donors just like you who believe in the work that Girls Inc. does to inspire, educate, and elevate girls by building their confidence and self-esteem.
As we approach Giving Tuesday, if you are looking for an organization to support please considera tax-deductible donation to GIWC of any amount. With your support, Girls Inc. of Westchester County will be able to continue the informative and inspirational programs that girls so desperately need. With you in their corner, girls will succeed.
