I am writing to ask for your support for an incredibly special cause – Girls, Inc. Girls Inc. is a nationwide organization which equips girls with the skills to navigate gender, economic, and social barriers to grow up healthy, educated, and independent. It teaches them to be strong, smart, and bold. It particularly looks to address the systemic barriers that impede girls’ success, particularly girls in low-income communities and girls of color.
About three years ago, I stumbled upon a need close to home. I learned that my housekeeper Maxine’s daughter Rasheda was graduating from high school and at risk of not continuing onto college. Although Rasheda, was a straight-A student, neither Maxine nor Rasheda, knew how to go about applying and preparing for college. Today, I am happy to report, Rasheda is starting her third year in college. Working with Rasheda opened my eyes to a need that through a little knowledge and mentoring a girl’s life can be changed.
The above experience is what attracted me to Girl’s Inc. Their research-based, hands-on programs have proven successful, with recent graduates now attending Harvard and other top colleges and universities in the United States.
Which brings me to why I am writing to you. Each year Girls, Inc. holds an annual fundraiser to support all its programs -- its only source of revenue. This year has proven to be especially challenging due to the Covid-19 pandemic and economic impact. As an in-person Gala benefit was not possible, Girls Inc. decided to hold its annual fundraiser virtually.
I am hoping to raise $2,500 dollars to support the many Girls of Girl’s Inc. Will you assist me in realizing this goal with a contribution for “the girls”?
Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.
Anne
